THE CHALLENGE
As
consumers are at the core of all business operations,
their interests have to be kept paramount. Manufacturers
and service providers need to tailor their operations
to providing their consumers with quality products and
services, in a manner that is profitable, yet ethical,
so as to satisfy all stakeholders.
In
a society where awareness of consumer interests is still
in its infancy, there is a need for regulation on part
of the Government and activism on part of the civil
society to ensure protection of consumer rights.
We,
the participants of the 4th .National Conference on
Consumer Protection declare and endorse that:
- Consumer
Protection Laws and Consumer Courts should be established
in all the provinces of Pakistan without any further
delay.
- Appropriate
measures should be adopted to promote product and
service quality, standards, GMP and CSR.
- PSQCA Standards and the existing Pure Food and Drug
laws must be enforced and implemented.
- An
end must be put to misleading advertisements so
that consumers are provided quality products at
a fair price.
- National
Quality Policy should be implemented without any
further delay.
- The
Supreme Court should be requested to assist and
come to the aid of the consumers and take suo motto
action to establish Consumer Laws and Consumer Courts.
- The
Ombudsman, Sindh should also be requested to assist
the consumers by taking action against those government
departments who fail to protect consumer interests.
- All
possible measures must be taken to create consumer
awareness against the dangers of substandard, counterfeit,
look alike & adulterated products.
- Manufacturers
must be held accountable on public health and safety
issue and practice good manufacturing practice and
CSR.
- There
should be transparency in standards development
and implementation.
