Press Release: Corporate Social Responsibility Awards.

Helpline Trust distributed its second CSR Awards, ‘Putting The Consumer First’, at a fund raiser at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi on 28th August, 2008.

Dr. Mrs. Ashraf Saiduzzaman Siddiqui wife of Jst. (Retd) Saiduzzaman Siddiqui, Former Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman, The Law Foundation, and Jst. (Retd) Majida Razvi, Trustee, Helpline Trust, distributed the awards.

The renowned and popular TV artists, Anwar Maqsood and Moin Akhtar entertained the guests with their usually funny ‘Loose Talk’.

The awards were given to those Companies who had demonstrated a commendable commitment to its consumers, as well as the community within which it operates. The Awards recognized corporate entities that have provided quality products at affordable prices and have made positive contributions to the betterment of civil society through sustainable social interventions.

The 18 national and multinational companies, which received the awards included,

9. Indus Motors Company Limited 18. Telenor Pakistan (Pvt) Limited

These companies had qualified and met the strict criteria set in a questioner, drawn up by a panel of experts in CSR, consisting of Mr. Zohare Ali Shariff, Ms. Khadeeja Balkhi, Ms. Rutaba Ahmed and Ms. Afia Usman Aziz. 

The selection was then approved by a three member panel of judges, which included Jst. (Retd) Majida Razvi, Trustee, Helpline Trust, Mrs. Ameena Saiyid, MD, Oxford University Press and Mr. David Watson of SEED business consulting, an expert in the field of CSR.

Certificates of Merit were also given to three companies, Mobilink, Indus Motor Company Limited and Attock Refinery Limited, who scored the highest points as per the criteria in the questioner drawn up by the experts.

Hamid Maker, Chairman, Helpline Trust stated that ‘We hope that these awards will serve to make a role models for other manufacturers and service sector organizations and that next year there will be more companies who will be selected for the awards.

He stated that the objectives of the Awards were, that in the absence of Consumer Protection Law (CPL) and the lack of enforcement of existing food and drug laws, we wish to make CSR companies to put The Consumer First and look after their interests.
