Societies are judged by the cities they live in and the heritage that they pass on to their future generations. The city of Karachi may not be Rome, Paris or Kula Lumpur, but once, it was known as the City of Lights.

However, over the years, due to neglect, lack of proper planning and ownership by the Government & its stake holders and insufficient funding etc., this once graceful and beautiful city has depleted beyond recognition into vast slums, over flowing gutters, broken roads, un-checked crime, chaotic traffic and dangerous air and noise pollution.

Most of its historical monuments are in an advance state of neglect and decay and if not saved, will be lost to our future generations.

To save this beloved city of ours, Helpline Trust has established a Citizen's Hall of Shame, in which we will identify those city areas which need immediate attention and will post the location, together with the name of the department responsible for its maintenance, in our Citizen's Hall of Shame and on our web site: www.helplinetrust.org.pk

A panel of senior citizens, with impeccable credentials, will select the location and the list will be updated every six months and will be forwarded to the President, the Prime Minister, the Governor, the Chief Minister, the relevant government department and the print and electronic media for necessary action.

The Hall of Shame will be launched on the 14th of August 05 and we request concerned government departments to kindly take appropriate action to avoid their names being included in the Citizen's Hall of Shame.

We hope the government departments will assist in us in our efforts to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Karachi, by establishing good governance and restoring Karachi to its past glory.
