My friend, Col. Riaz Jafri from Pindi, in his email, The Heroic Civilians, has summed it up well, while describing the rescue operation of the residents that were trapped in the Margalla Towers. “It is gratifying to see the nation rising to the occasion. I take my hat off to the young civilians who were the first to reach the Margalla Towers and what a marvelous example of discipline, courage and bravery they set”.

They climbed the dangerous spots on the precariously broken parts of the building. Some burrowed themselves deep under the suffocating dusty and dark rubble and pulled out the trapped victims. It was an amazing display of courage with complete disregard to their personal safety. Each one deserves the Sitara-e-Basalat. This is the Pakistani nation at her best. ‘Zara nam ho to yeh mitti buhut ! zarkhez hai saqi – Iqbal’.
