Public Interest Litigation Program

Aiming for an equitable Pakistan

Aims and Objectives
Getting justice in Pakistan is a time consuming undertaking. It is because of this inaccessibility to justice, that a common man shirks away from confronting the various injustices by various agencies, institutions, organizations and individuals infringing upon his civic rights. He considers it better to suffer silently, rather than raise his voice to seek justice.

The Helpline Trust aims to break this status quo through Public Interest Litigation, by taking up grievances in the court of law on behalf of the public. This would deter those who have taken refuge in the inaccessibility to justice and continue to inflict damage to the basic civic rights of citizens.

Accomplishments and Proposed projects

The Helpline Trust has actively filed petitions of common interest in the court of law. It was a joint petitioner in the successful case against illegal construction in Glass Towers at main Clifton road, with Mr. Ardeshir Cowasjee and Sherhri, an NGO.

The Helpline Trust had also filed Public Interest Litigation against the payment of VCR and Dish Antenna fee in the High Court of Sindh. We are pleased to inform that the said fee has since then been withdrawn wide S.RO.No.161 (I)/2001 dated 12th March 2001.

We will continue to take such matters of common interest, where the basic civic rights are being infringed upon.
